welcome to the blog

Posted by Teapots Happen

I’ve been stalling on this blog for a long time now. I’ve started several first posts up, and abandoned them – hopefully this time – writing quickly and off the cuff – it’ll stick.

Ever since “the teapot incident” I already posted on here, I’ve started paying attention to coincidences in my life. Now, as then, I do not know for sure what, if anything, such events mean – but I also remain convinced that they are not meaningless – are not mere random statistics, oddities that reveal nothing more than unlikely co-incidences driven by nothing other than large numbers and a pattern-seeking mind.

Well – usually. Sometimes, my old, deeply-ingrained habits of thought – skepticism, rationalism, anti-spiritualityism (I’m gonna go ahead and claim that’s a word) – do take hold, and I wonder what the fuck crazy thinking I’ve gotten myself into. Then, later, I flip back around to a point where my most ‘rational’ thoughts seem absurd.

Which is why I started keeping track of these coincidences – large or small, I’ve made an effort to write them down – because my memory is horrible, and if I don’t commit these things to type, they are lost forever. And because I wanted to be able to look back and review them later, from whatever vantage point I may be at, and evaluate these stories.

I wrote some down in random places – in emails, word docs, on social networking sites, but they were scattered all over. So about a year ago I started compiling them into a Google Doc.

This blog is an extension of that project – a place where I can not only stockpile my notes about synchronicities, but also share and discuss them with the world. I feel compelled to do so, as I felt compelled to post the Teapot story on the Action Squad website even though I was horribly uncomfortable admitting that my beliefs were taking such a turn toward what I deemed to be new-agey wishful thinking – especially on the website where I’d built myself up as such a sneering punk rock character.

So I’m going to start out by just digging the stories up from the Google Doc and posting them in the order that they occured, as well as posting any thoughts I have along the way. We’ll be talking about synchronicity, intuition, consciousness, belief, reality, and whatever else is appropriate to this exploration of synchronicity – for that is what this is – an exploration.

I don’t know what lies ahead, but I am intensely curious and I can no more turn away from this journey than Max Action could turn away from the unknown darkness of a secret tunnel.

Where we wind up should be interesting – stay tuned.
